Malheur
Belgium · Founded in 1997
Malheur is a small family brewery located in Buggenhout, a town in the East Flemish region of Belgium. The roots of the brewing family stretch back to 1773, when Balthazar de Landtsheer began the family tradition. After a period of inactivity, the brewery was restarted in 1996 under the name Brouwerij De Zon, and in 1997 Manu De Landtsheer revived the brewing heritage under the Malheur name. Today the brewery continues as a modest, family-run operation with a deep respect for Belgian brewing tradition. Malheur specialises in noble, living beers that evolve in flavour through bottle conditioning. The portfolio includes blond ales, tripels and darker styles, with alcohol strengths ranging from approachable everyday beers to robust, high-gravity offerings such as the Malheur 12. One of the most distinctive products in the range is the Malheur Bière Brut, brewed according to the Méthode Traditionnelle — a technique borrowed from sparkling wine production — making Malheur one of the first breweries in Belgium to bring such a beer to market. Malheur has earned recognition on the international stage, winning multiple awards at the World Beer Awards. The brewery's commitment to experimentation alongside its respect for classic Belgian styles has given it a strong reputation among beer enthusiasts and collectors worldwide.
