Judas Alken-Maes (Heineken)
Belgium · Founded in 1988
Judas is a Belgian strong golden ale brand owned by Alken-Maes, the second-largest brewing company in Belgium. The beer was first brewed in 1986 by Brasserie Union in Jumet. Alken-Maes itself was formed in 1988 through the merger of Brouwerij Maes and the Brouwerij van Alken, and is headquartered in Alken, in the Belgian province of Limburg. The company is today part of the Heineken group. Judas is a Belgian strong golden ale brewed with high fermentation, clocking in at a notable 8.5% ABV. The style places it firmly in the tradition of powerful, golden Belgian ales — characterised by a rich malt base, noticeable alcohol warmth and the complex yeast character that comes with top fermentation. It is bottled in 750ml bottles and widely distributed across Belgium and beyond. With its deep roots in Belgian brewing heritage and the backing of one of the world's largest brewing groups, Judas remains one of the more recognisable names in the Belgian strong ale category, available in bottle format at accessible price points across international markets.
