Flensburger
Germany · Founded in 1888
Founded on September 6, 1888, as the Flensburger Export-Brauerei by five local merchants in the northernmost city of Germany, Flensburger Brauerei has deep roots in the town of Flensburg, Schleswig-Holstein. The brewery was established around a vital natural resource: a glacier, which provided the cold water essential for brewing. In 1933, Emil Petersen took charge and the brewery was renamed Flensburger Brauereien Emil Petersen & Co., a name it still carries today. Remarkably, it remains one of the last nationally distributed breweries in Germany not owned by a multinational corporation. Flensburger's portfolio spans more than thirteen varieties of beer. The flagship Flensburger Pilsener has been brewed since 1922 and remains the cornerstone of the range. Beyond their classic Pilsener, the brewery offers a diverse lineup of lager styles, including a Strand-Lager with an ABV of 6.2%, showcasing the brewery's ability to craft both everyday and more robust lagers. Flensburger is widely regarded as a benchmark for German Pilsener, regularly mentioned alongside the country's most respected brewing names. Flensburger is also well known for its iconic swing-top bottles with porcelain stoppers, a distinctive packaging tradition that has become inseparable from the brand's identity. The brewery has actively invested in climate protection and energy efficiency on its production line, underlining a commitment to sustainable brewing practices.
