De Bronzen Ezel is a brewery and beer collective from Heemskerk, in the Dutch province of North Holland. Founded by brewer Nick van Tunen, the project grew out of the former Brouwerij 5Hoog, where Van Tunen was one of the driving forces. After 5Hoog ceased operations, he continued independently and established De Bronzen Ezel as a platform for craft beer enthusiasts who appreciate small-batch, carefully considered brewing. The brewery operated as a collective, releasing new beers roughly every quarter — sometimes every six months — with each release being a distinct and surprising creation aimed at connoisseurs. Among the beers brewed under the De Bronzen Ezel name is a Brut IPA of 7.5%, fermented with both brewer's yeast and champagne yeast, resulting in a dry and aromatic beer that showcases the experimental spirit of the brand. The focus was on specialty beer with character rather than volume or mainstream styles. In 2022, it became known that the brewers behind De Bronzen Ezel had decided to stop brewing, marking the end of this small but distinctive North Holland beer collective. Despite its relatively limited run, De Bronzen Ezel left an impression among Dutch craft beer lovers for its inventive approach and the personal passion of brewer Nick van Tunen.
