Brouwerij Smisje is a tiny artisanal brewery founded in 1995 by Johan Brandt, a former printer and home brewer with a deep passion for excellent beer. Located in the Oudenaarde region of East Flanders, Belgium, the brewery was previously known as Brouwerij De Regenboog before taking on the Smisje name. With a brew capacity of just 2,000 litres per batch, it ranks among the smallest craft breweries in Flanders, operating essentially as a one-man operation. Despite its modest scale, Smisje has carved out a distinct identity in the Belgian beer landscape. The brewery is known for its unconventional and creative approach to Belgian ale styles. One of its most notable beers is Wostyntje, a beer brewed with mustard seeds, which exemplifies the experimental spirit of the brand. The yeast used in fermentation is cultivated in-house, giving Smisje's beers a signature character that is entirely its own.
