Brouwerij Jovius was a Dutch craft brewery based in Nieuwegein, a city in the province of Utrecht. The brewery was founded and operated by Vincent Verhaar, who also played a notable role in the Dutch craft beer scene beyond his own brand. The name Jovius carries a Latin character, echoing the classical heritage of the city of Utrecht, historically linked to the Roman fort Trajectum. Jovius built a reputation as a collaborative and community-oriented brewery. Beyond brewing its own beers, it served as a contract brewing partner for other emerging Dutch breweries. Among them was De Zoetermeerse Brouwerij (DZB), whose beers were brewed at Jovius from 2019 onwards under the supervision of Vincent Verhaar. This partnership reflects the cooperative spirit that characterised the brewery's approach to the local craft beer community. Brouwerij Jovius closed its doors in July 2021, marking the end of an era for the Nieuwegein brewing scene. During its active years, the brewery contributed meaningfully to the growth of independent Dutch craft brewing, both through its own portfolio and by supporting the development of other brewers in the region.
