Brouwerij De Leeuw

Brouwerij De Leeuw is a Dutch brewery with roots going back to the nineteenth century. One of the most notable bearers of this name was established in Weesp in 1863, located near the lock in that historic town. It operated for decades before closing its doors in 1920, making it the last brewery to operate in Weesp. A separate operation linked to the De Leeuw name was also active in Vessem, in the province of North Brabant, where a recipe dating back to 1948 was associated with the brewery and later served as the basis for a beer brewed by Brouwerij Beerze, named after a nearby stream. The brewery's portfolio was rooted in traditional Dutch lager brewing. Leeuw Pilsener, a German-style pilsner, is among the beers associated with the De Leeuw name and has been rated by drinkers on platforms such as Untappd. The pilsner style reflects the broader Dutch brewing tradition of the twentieth century, with an emphasis on clean, crisp lager fermentation. The De Leeuw name carries strong symbolic and historical weight within Dutch beer culture. Its legacy spans multiple locations and generations, and its historic recipes have continued to inspire contemporary brewers in the Netherlands.
