Brouwerij De Hoorn
Belgium · Founded in 1706
Brouwerij De Hoorn is a Belgian brewery with roots stretching back centuries, closely tied to the small village of Steenhuffel in the Flemish Brabant province of Belgium. The brewery is historically linked to Brouwerij Palm, which was founded in 1706, and the two names have been intertwined ever since. A separate but equally significant chapter in De Hoorn's history took place in Leuven, where a brewery under the same name opened its doors in 1923 — the very site where, three years later, the first-ever Stella Artois was brewed. Today, Brouwerij De Hoorn operates as part of the Royal Swinkels Family Brewers portfolio, continuing a long legacy of Belgian brewing craftsmanship. Brouwerij De Hoorn is perhaps best known as the birthplace of Cornet, a powerful Belgian Strong Golden Ale that has become one of the brewery's signature offerings. The portfolio includes both high- and low-fermented beers, reflecting a broad command of Belgian brewing traditions. Cornet Oaked stands out in particular — a bold blonde ale with a subtle woody character, achieved through oak aging, making it one of Belgium's most recognised barrel-influenced beers. The brewery also produces Estaminet Refined Lager, further demonstrating its range across styles. The story of Cornet itself has a compelling historical backdrop: it was originally brewed at De Hoorn's request by Theodoor Cornet, steward of Kasteel Diepensteyn, on behalf of the Count of Steenhuffel. This heritage gives the beer — and the brewery — a distinctly storied identity within Belgian beer culture.
