Brauhaus Riegele

Brauhaus Riegele is one of Germany's oldest breweries, with roots tracing back to 1386, when the brewing house known as "Zum Goldenen Roß" first documented its origins in Augsburg, Bavaria. Over more than six centuries, the brewery has grown into a respected mid-size operation while remaining firmly anchored in its Augsburg heritage. Its long history places it among the rare breweries that have survived and evolved through centuries of German brewing tradition, including adherence to the Reinheitsgebot, the German beer purity law. The brewery's portfolio is remarkably diverse, encompassing 14 different beer styles that span festbier, kellerbier, weizen, doppelbock, and strong beers, among others. Notable examples include the Kellerbier, described by the New York Times as a creamy Bavarian-style lager with notes of dough, honey, and grass, and the Augustus Weizen Doppelbock, praised for its clean, malty character. Riegele also brews Dulcis 12, a Belgian-style Dubbel at 11% ABV brewed with natural honey and refermented for extra complexity, as well as an alcohol-free IPA, Liberis 2+3, demonstrating a willingness to push beyond tradition. Brauhaus Riegele has gained international recognition through a collaboration with California's Sierra Nevada Brewing Company for their annual Oktoberfest beer, with Riegele serving as the inaugural partner. The brewery also produces its own Spezi, a cola-lemon mixed drink, which has earned a loyal following among enthusiasts.
