Batteliek is a microbrewery, distillery, and lemonade producer rooted in the historic church of Battel, near Mechelen, Belgium. The concept was developed under Brouwerij Het Anker, one of Belgium's most storied family breweries with roots dating back to 1791. After Het Anker won the tender for the former Battel church, the Batteliek project was set to open in 2021, celebrating its second anniversary in March 2023. The name and location are deeply tied to the local heritage of the Battel neighbourhood. Batteliek's portfolio reflects its unique identity as a microbrewery with an artisanal and community-driven character. Among its beers is the Mechelse Felle, a bière de garde brewed as part of the local project 'Mond vol Mechelen', released in a limited edition of just 4,000 bottles. Beyond beer, the concept also encompasses a small-batch distillery and its own lemonade range, making it a multifaceted producer. One notable product is the Gouden Carolus Indulgence Batteliek, a blond beer at 7.4% ABV released under the Het Anker umbrella. Batteliek is more than a brewery — it functions as a gathering place for beer lovers, lemonade enthusiasts, and anyone curious about local flavours and craftsmanship. Housed in a beautifully repurposed church, the brewpub setting offers a distinctive hospitality experience that blends heritage architecture with a thoroughly modern brewing concept.
