AmBev, short for Companhia de Bebidas das Américas, is one of the largest beverage companies in the Americas, headquartered in Brazil. The company was formed on 1 July 1999 through the merger of two of Brazil's oldest and most iconic breweries: Companhia Cerveceria Brahma and Grupo Antarctica Paulista. This consolidation created a brewing powerhouse that quickly came to dominate the Brazilian beer market, controlling nearly 70 percent of it. In 2004, AmBev merged with Belgian brewing giant Interbrew to form InBev, which later became Anheuser-Busch InBev, one of the largest beer companies in the world. AmBev's beer portfolio is built around a number of well-known regional and international brands. In Brazil, flagship labels include Skol, Brahma, and Antarctica — household names that have defined Brazilian beer culture for generations. Beyond Brazil, the company holds leading positions in several Latin American markets with brands such as Quilmes in Argentina and Presidente in the Dominican Republic. In Canada, the Labatt brand falls under the AmBev umbrella. The portfolio spans a range of accessible lager styles, tailored to local tastes across the Americas. As the dominant force in Brazilian brewing, AmBev has built its reputation on scale, distribution, and brand recognition. Its merger history ultimately led to the creation of AB InBev, the world's largest brewer by volume, cementing AmBev's legacy as a pivotal chapter in global beer industry history.
