Black Damnation 03 Black Mess is an Imperial Stout from Struise Brouwers in Oostvleteren, aged in peated beer casks. This 2018 vintage carries 13% ABV and demands patience to reveal its full depth. The nose opens with light roast, black coffee and dark chocolate, layered with dried dark fruit, raisins and figs. A subtle peat smoke rounds out the aroma. On the palate, light sweetness from the malt foundation gives way to dried fruit, plums and raisins, interwoven with coffee and cocoa notes. Wood character emerges from the barrel aging.
