Bonifatius Acht Guldens
About
Stadsbrouwerij Bonifatius 754 in Dokkum revives a medieval brewing tradition with this Quadrupel, brewed using water from the historic Bonifatius spring. Acht Guldens takes its name from the town's connection to Saint Boniface in 754. After 140 years without a brewery, the city's smallest city brewery resumed production in 2015. This dark, full-bodied ale balances sweet and bitter notes. Aromas of chocolate, caramel and aniseed emerge on the nose. Despite 10% ABV, it drinks smoothly with a smoky, warming finish typical of the style. A complex, heavyweight beer with substantial malt depth.
