About
Guinness West Indies Porter is a revival of an original 1801 recipe, created by Arthur Guinness II for export to the Caribbean islands. The elevated alcohol content and extra hops served as natural preservatives during the long sea voyage. This porter marries roasted malt with subtle toffee and coffee character. The aroma offers caramel malt and chocolate, while the palate is both complex and mellow—noticeably less bitter than draught Guinness. A creamy mouthfeel and restrained hop bitterness provide balance to the full body. An authentic, well-crafted porter that demonstrates more refinement than many contemporary takes on the style.
