Black Forest Picante from Lervig Aktiebryggeri is a Norwegian Imperial Stout matured for ten months in Tennessee whiskey barrels. Building on their 3-bean foundation, this ambitious brew incorporates tonka beans, cocoa, coffee nibs and Norwegian cherry juice, finished with a hint of chili extract. The nose reveals light roast, chocolate and cherry juice layered with vanilla, coconut and bourbon character. The palate is intensely sweet, delivering dark chocolate and vanilla alongside cocoa and coffee notes, while the chili extract adds a measured warmth that tempers the sweetness. The finish lingers sweetly with a boozy undertone. A dessert-style sipper where barrel maturation and spiced heat balance the richness, creating a layered, warming experience.
