Berne Abdijbier's Vatgerijpte Quadrupel 2019 Sherry en Port is a distinctive barrel-aged expression of their Abt-generaal Quadrupel. At 10.5% ABV, this beer spent a full year maturing in sherry and port casks, acquiring subtle wine-like character. The beer presents as dark and glossy with a light brown head. Aromas of figs, raisins and cherry fruit emerge, enhanced by the barrel aging. On the palate, these dark fruit notes continue with a full, nourishing body and the warmth of alcohol. The cask influence is clearly present yet restrained, creating a bold and considered blend. Revenues from this special edition support the centuries-old Norbertine community at Abdij van Berne.
