About
Gruut Bruin from Stadsbrouwerij Gruut in Ghent is a dark brown ale that revives medieval brewing traditions. Instead of hop bitterness, this brewery uses a secret blend of herbs and spices – gruit – much as brewers did a thousand years ago, before hops became the standard bittering agent. At 8% ABV, this beer delivers a full, sweet palate with notes of dried fruit, nuts and spice. The aroma is complex, showing bread, dark malt, caramel and raisins. The gruit blend adds a distinctive herbal character rarely found in modern beers. The finish is smooth and lingering, with a warming alcohol presence befitting its strength. A beer that tastes of history, inviting you to experience the era when gruit shaped the flavour of European brewing.
