Flying Dutchman Nomad Brewing Company's dark Black Metal Ale is bold in conception and execution. Brewed with six malt varieties and six hop varieties, applied across six separate additions, this is a layered and complex beer. Ronald de Waal, the brewer behind Flying Dutchman, draws on over 25 years of experience across Finland, the Netherlands and Belgium. The beer combines pale ale malt, rye malt and roasted wheat malt with Columbus, Chinook, Centennial, Amarillo, Simcoe and Citra hops. The result is a dark, moody character with smoky and fruity notes. At 6.7% ABV, it delivers full flavour without excessive alcohol warmth. The beer earned silver at the World Beer Awards 2022, testament to the craft of this independent brewer.
