Rothaus Pils / Tannenzäpfle
About
Tannenzäpfle is the flagship Pilsner from Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus, a state-owned brewery nestled in Germany's Black Forest since 1791. Brewed with pure mountain spring water, organic malt and noble hops—and notably, no bittering additions—this is an uncommonly soft German Pilsner. Yet it carries a persistent bitterness and dry, herbal finish, supported by a lean, elegant malt backbone. The name means "pine cones," a nod to the forest setting. Poured into a glass, it presents a bright golden colour beneath a fluffy white head. The nose invites with grain and floral hop character. Unpasteurised and matured underground, Tannenzäpfle has earned a devoted following among beer enthusiasts, particularly in its home region.
