Schuppenboer Maxima Calvados BA represents an ambitious venture from Brouwerij Het Nest in Oud-Turnhout. This potent golden ale at 14.9% ABV has been matured for six months in fresh Calvados barrels, imparting a distinctive character. The beer merges the fruity and spicy hallmarks of a Belgian Tripel with the warm, orchard-fruit influence of French apple brandy casks. In the glass it appears light blonde and slightly hazy, crowned with a white head of good persistence. The nose carries classic Belgian Tripel traits—spicy, floral and crisp—enriched by the Calvados maturation. On the palate, a full-bodied and smooth texture develops with pleasant alcoholic warmth. The finish is substantial, with persistent fruity and warming notes that linger considerably.
