About
Alpaïde from Brouwerij Nieuwhuys in Hoegaarden is a dark, heavy Belgian strong ale steeped in medieval heritage. Named after Countess Alpaïde of the early Middle Ages, who founded the chapter Huardis—the precursor to the famous brewing village—this beer carries history in every glass. The beer opens with roasted malt aromas, layered with caramel and subtle coffee perfume. On the palate, roasted malts and assertive bitterness take the lead, balanced by fruity esters and spicy yeast character. The finish is long and complex, with liquorice notes that linger pleasantly. Full-bodied and warming with alcohol, Alpaïde is a contemplative beer for those who appreciate dark, top-fermented Belgian ales.
