About
Duchesse de Bourgogne is a Flanders Red Ale from Brouwerij Verhaeghe, a family brewery with roots reaching back to 1885. This classic sour ale is a blend of young and aged beer—matured for eight and eighteen months in oak casks—creating a layered, complex character. The name honours Mary of Burgundy, daughter of Charles the Bold and born in Brussels in 1457. The beer is brewed with roasted malts and regional hop varieties selected for their low bitterness, following Flanders' traditional mixed-fermentation method. The result is a sweet-fruity ale with pleasant acidity and a fresh finish. In the glass, a reddish-brown hue reveals aromas of sour cherry, dark berries, and subtle woody notes. The taste begins sweetly but evolves into soft sourness with cherry-like character and a dry, lingering conclusion.
