About
Granitbock is a robust strong bock from Brauerei Hofstetten, one of Austria's oldest breweries, operating in the Mühlviertel since 1449. This beer follows the historic 'Steinbier' (stone beer) tradition: white-hot granite stones are plunged into the wort to caramelize it, then the beer ferments in 120-year-old stone vessels. The result is a dark, intensely flavoured bier with pronounced roasted malt character. The nose reveals deep caramel and dark chocolate notes, supported by the toasty backbone typical of classic Bock brewing. On the palate, robust malt flavours emerge with hints of raisin and toffee. At 11.5% ABV, the alcohol is well-integrated, creating a warming, substantial beer suited to cellaring.
