The Vatgerijpte Abt-generaal represents Berne Abdijbier's barrel-aged interpretation of its flagship quadrupel. The base beer matures for one year in oak casks previously used for Barbados rum and Islay Single Malt Whisky, imparting rich, layered depth. This 2023 release emerged from a single 2000-liter batch, which yielded five distinct fruity variants through collaboration with Brouwerij Brouwersnös. The beer pours dark brown and clear. The nose reveals caramel, raisins, and dried fruit, shaped by barrel contact. The palate echoes these sweet, caramel-forward notes with dried fruit character. At 11% ABV and a modest 22 IBU, this is a warming, full-bodied quadrupel designed for those seeking complex, roasted-sweet depth.
