De Praktische Bierbrouwer (The Practical Beer Brewer) is a historical Dutch brewing manual published in 1866 in Amsterdam by C.L. Brinkman. Written and edited by an anonymous 'old brewer', the book offers a rare window into nineteenth-century Dutch brewing practices at a time when the Netherlands was gradually losing its centuries-long status as a prominent beer nation. The publication is considered a valuable piece of Dutch brewing heritage and is preserved by the Stichting Erfgoed Nederlandse Biercultuur (Foundation for Dutch Beer Culture Heritage). The manual covers traditional brewing topics including malt production, brewing barley, and grain varieties, reflecting the craft knowledge of the era. One such project produced a series of beers — including a Hollandsche Ale — sold in sets of three in a decorative box, directly inspired by the 1866 text.
