Privatbrauerei Iserlohn was a private brewery located in Iserlohn, in the Sauerland region of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Founded in 1899, it began producing beer around 1901 and grew steadily over the decades. What started as one of the smaller pilsner breweries in the Sauerland eventually expanded into a larger operation as bigger regional breweries consolidated around it. The brewery operated for over a century before closing its doors in 2014. The brewery's portfolio was rooted in German brewing tradition, with a strong focus on lager and pilsner styles brewed in accordance with the Reinheitsgebot, Germany's historic purity law. Iserlohner Pilsener was the flagship product, a classic German Pilsner that earned a loyal following in the region. The range also included Iserlohner Radler, a refreshing mix of Iserlohner Pilsener and lemon lemonade. Under the Oscar Maxxum label, the brewery produced an Export-style lager and an Alt, an amber-coloured beer with notes of roasted malt and caramel, typical of the traditional Altbier style. Though no longer in operation, Privatbrauerei Iserlohn remains a notable chapter in the brewing history of the Sauerland. Its beers, particularly the Iserlohner Pilsener and the Oscar Maxxum range, are still remembered and reviewed by beer enthusiasts, reflecting the brewery's enduring legacy in German regional brewing.
