Brasserie du Pays Basque has its roots in 1999, when the first Eki beer was brewed, marking the beginning of a craft beer adventure in the French Basque Country. In 2016, a new project was launched to build a dedicated brewery in Bardos, a village in the heart of the Basque region, approximately 22 kilometres from Bayonne. The brewery officially opened its doors in 2019 and has since grown into one of the largest breweries in Aquitaine, covering more than 3,000 square metres of brewing space. Five passionate brewmasters lead production at the brewery, combining traditional know-how with a modern approach to craft beer. Their portfolio is built around the Eguzki brand — a name derived from the Basque word for sun — and includes a range of recognisable styles such as a blonde (Horia/Rubia), an amber ale (Ambrée), and a stout porter. The brewery is known for producing craft beers with a strong and distinctive personality, deeply rooted in Basque culture and identity. Brasserie du Pays Basque stands out as a benchmark for regional craft brewing in southwest France. The Eguzki range, alongside beers such as Zazpi and Artz, reflects the brewery's commitment to showcasing local character through quality brewing. The modern facility also supports ongoing research and development, allowing the brewmasters to continuously refine and expand their range.
