The Herd from Rye River Brewing Company is a Belgian-inspired Quadrupel built on a foundation of rich malt character, warmed by its substantial alcohol content. The beer was aged for nine months in freshly emptied Buffalo Trace Bourbon barrels, adding layers of vanilla, caramel and bourbon notes to an already complex base. The result is a dark, full-bodied ale with aromas of bourbon, vanilla, caramel and dark stone fruit. On the palate, it balances warming alcohol with sweet malt depth and a lingering, complex finish. The barrel maturation brings additional sophistication without overwhelming the underlying Belgian ale character.
