La Trappe Quadrupel Oak Aged Batch 26 is a distinctive release from Bierbrouwerij De Koningshoeven, matured in oak barrels previously used for port, wine, cognac, whiskey and rum. Blended in November 2016, this robust Trappist ale transcends its base beer through careful barrel selection and aging. The varied wood aging imparts a distinctive character. Vanilla and toasted oak dominate the nose, with hints of cognac and caramel in the background. The palate reveals the full, malty foundation of the original Quadrupel, enhanced by the complexity drawn from the wooden vessels. High tannin content gives the beer a wine-like quality.
