Hertog Jan Grand Prestige Vatgerijpt Bourbon is an ambitious barrel-aged quadrupel from Arcen. The base beer, Grand Prestige, matured for seven months in Kentucky Straight Bourbon barrels, which impart vanilla, caramel and coconut notes. This is a full-bodied, complex beer at 11.5% ABV.

The Bourbon barrel maturation gives the beer refined structure and warm, woody undertones. The aroma reveals itself in layers: sweet caramel and vanilla from the wood, supported by the depth of the dark malt bill. On the palate, a balance develops between the matured sweetness and subtle bitterness.

This 2018 vintage is part of a broader Vatgerijpt programme where Hertog Jan explored different barrels and infusions. A beer for patient tasting, best enjoyed in small measures.
