Hertog Jan's Vatgerijpt 2023 Christmas Edition represents an ambitious brewing experiment: a single 2000-litre batch of base beer matured in multiple casks, yielding five distinct fruity variants. This year the brewers sourced barrels from Latin America—Rhum Agricole, Reposado, Mezcal and Cachaça—all crafted from American and French oak. The result is a 12% ABV Quadrupel infused with tropical passion and fiery character. A collaboration between Hertog Jan and Brouwerij Brouwersnös in Groenlo, this release blends Limburgian brewing craft with Latin American spirit. Each barrel imparted its own signature: full-bodied with fruity notes, deep earthy aromas and subtle floral touches. A high-fermentation barley wine that celebrates both technical mastery and geographical exploration.
