Bronckhorster Barrel Aged nr. 42 represents an ambitious venture by this Achterhoek brewery: a robust Quadrupel aged for 18 months in Château Léoville Poyferré Médoc barrels. The result is a dark, full-bodied beer with dark fruit, chocolate and vanilla notes in the aroma. The palate reveals a sweet foundation of caramel and dried fruit, layered with red fruit character and a pronounced bitter, somewhat dry finish. The aftertaste lingers long, intense and warming—fitting for a beer at 13% ABV. This is no soft, approachable sipper, but a complex creation where the wine barrels have left their mark.
