Hertog Jan Grand Prestige is the flagship of this Dutch brewery based in Arcen. Brewed as a high-fermentation barley wine with four different malts—including a proprietary crystal malt made exclusively for this beer—it presents a deep reddish-brown appearance and complex character. The nose reveals roasted malt, caramel and spice. On the palate, dark fruit, chocolate and coffee emerge in a full, ripe flavour where sweetness and bitterness are distinctly balanced. The finish delivers pleasant bitterness with warming alcohol notes. This is a beer designed to age; after two years in the cellar, the flavour becomes richer and more layered.
