Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen
Belgium · Founded in 1882
Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen is one of Belgium's most iconic and revered producers of traditional lambic and geuze, with roots stretching back to 1882, when mayor Jacobus Vanderlinden opened a café in Beersel and began blending lambic. The brewery as it exists today took shape in 1998, when Armand De Belder installed a small second-hand brewery and began brewing alongside the blending tradition that had defined the family for generations. Located in the village of Beersel, in the Pajottenland region southwest of Brussels, 3 Fonteinen stands as one of the last authentic traditional lambic breweries and geuze blenders in Belgium. The portfolio centres on spontaneously fermented beers that rely on wild airborne yeasts and long maturation rather than cultivated strains. Core offerings include Oude Geuze — blended from one-, two-, and three-year-old lambics — as well as Oude Kriek and a range of fruit lambics, each showcasing the complex, tart, and funky character that defines the Pajottenland tradition. The blending philosophy demands patience and precision, with every batch shaped by the natural environment of the brewery. Among the most celebrated releases is the Oude Geuze Cuvée Armand & Gaston, a tribute blend honouring the brewery's heritage. 3 Fonteinen has been recognised by international beer media, including CNBC, as producing some of the world's best beers. Visitors can experience the brewery and its lambik-O-droom visitor centre in Beersel, where the craftsmanship behind each bottle is brought to life.
