Wychwood Hobgoblin
Hobgoblin is the flagship beer of Wychwood Brewery, established in Witney, Oxfordshire in 1983. This Extra Special Bitter at 5.2% ABV is a brown ale with a substantial malt foundation and balanced hop character.
The brewery employs a distinctive fermentation technique called 'double dropping', where fermentation occurs across two stages. Hobgoblin is brewed from Maris Otter pale malt, crystal malt and chocolate malt, finished with Fuggles and Styrian hops. This combination delivers toffee and biscuit notes with a dry finish and a hint of citrus in the aroma.
The beer earned a Gold Medal at the 2006 World Beer Championships and received an Exceptional rating of 91 points from the Beverage Tasting Institute.
