Weingut Hofbauer has been brewing beer since 2018 alongside its wine production in Austria's Retzer Land region. The Retzbacher Dunkel is a dark lager crafted exclusively from barley and wheat grown on the estate.

This dunkel appears nearly black with ruby-brown tones and a cream-coloured head. Roasted malt aromas dominate the nose, complemented by nougat and cocoa notes. The palate shows roasted character with roasted nuts and bitter cocoa, finishing dry with a subtle grain-like quality.

In 2025, the Retzbacher Dunkel earned the title of Austrian State Champion – officially recognised as Austria's finest dark lager.
