Sisters Nectar
Sisters Nectar is an ambitious barleywine from The Sisters Brewery in Breukelen, a small craft operation run by two sisters and their father. This beer is a double mash of their Pchela, aged for six months in oak casks that previously matured Rutte Oude Jenever for a decade. The result is deep black and intensely flavoured.
The nose reveals roasted grain with notes of chocolate and coffee. On the palate, roasted character dominates, balanced by bitterness from Columbus, Chinook, Centennial and Simcoe hops. The interplay between malt and hop is well-judged.
The mouthfeel is silky smooth despite the 10.7% ABV. A warming, full-bodied barleywine worth opening with intention.
