Struise Sint Amatus Vintage 2013
Sint Amatus, named after the Benedictine monk who championed the vulnerable against tyranny, is a dark quadrupel from Struise Brouwers in Oostvleteren. This 2013 vintage matured for six years in Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels, developing a complex, full-bodied character. At 10.5% ABV, Sint Amatus delivers rich flavours of prunes, raisins and dates, supported by caramel malts and woody notes imparted by the bourbon casks.
The nose is sweet and fruity, with distinct dried fruit character and subtle alcohol warmth. On the palate, a full, complex flavour unfolds with chocolate, caramel and whiskey-like notes. The finish is long and warming, with a well-balanced interplay of oak and alcohol that lingers pleasantly.
