No Barley Wine
Stadsbrouwerij Wageningen's No Barley Wine is a bold experiment that replaces barley entirely with alternative grains: wheat, rye, oats, rice, corn, sorghum and buckwheat. This unconventional grain blend creates a beer that departs significantly from traditional barleywine conventions.
At 9.2% ABV, the beer develops a full, complex character where the different grains complement one another. The Wageningen nano-brewery, known for its locally focused approach, crafted this as both a technical and flavour challenge. The result is an intriguing exploration of what becomes possible without the classic base grain.
