Westvleteren 8
Westvleteren 8 is a classic Belgian Trappist Dubbel from Sint-Sixtus Abbey, brewed since 1838. This artisanal ale combines dark malt with candy sugar and is bottle-conditioned with natural carbonation.
The aroma reveals green nuts, soft fruit and subtle caramel notes. On the palate, dark fruits—raisins, plums and figs—emerge alongside brown sugar and a hint of baker's chocolate. The beer is well-balanced, with a drying and distinctly pronounced hop bitterness in the finish that defines the brewery's character.
At 8% ABV, this is a substantial beer that pairs beautifully with hearty fare: crusty bread with pâté or medium-rare beef.
