Newcastle Brown Ale

Newcastle Brown Ale was launched in 1927 by Colonel Jim Porter following three years of development at Newcastle Breweries in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. This is no ordinary brown ale: the beer was originally a blend of two distinct styles—a strong, aged dark ale combined with a younger, lighter amber ale. This combination creates its signature and distinctive character.

The beer displays a translucent red-to-brown hue and delivers notes of nutty brown malt and caramel. The flavour is sweet and balanced with a crisp finish. At 4.7% ABV, it remains accessible and drinkable despite its unusual profile—exactly what Colonel Porter intended for a mainstream audience.
