Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout
Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout is a classic English stout brewed by the independent Samuel Smith's Brewery in Tadcaster, Yorkshire. This beer was reintroduced in 1980 to revive a style popular in the late 1800s but lost before the Second World War. It is brewed with barley, roasted malt, oats and traditional English hops.
The beer pours nearly opaque, dark brown to black, crowned with a creamy, substantial head. The flavour is refined and well-balanced, with subtle notes of chocolate, caramel and coffee that never overwhelm. The oats contribute a full, silky texture and gentle sweetness.
This is an approachable stout with moderate alcohol (5%) that drinks smoothly over extended sessions. The bittersweet finish is elegant and clean, making this a world-class example of the oatmeal stout style.
