Chimay Grande Réserve Oak Aged 2019
Chimay Grande Réserve Oak Aged 2019 is a barrel-aged strong ale from Scourmont Abbey, home of the Belgian Trappist monks. Matured in American (60%) and French oak (40%), this 10.5% beer develops layers of vanilla, caramel and subtle citrus character.
The glass reveals a dark brown, clear ale with a thin head. Soft vanilla notes open the nose, followed by complex roasted malt, spicy and floral aromatics. The palate weaves together dark fruit, oak influence and a pleasant hint of orange, balanced by sweet caramel undertones.
Despite its strength, the beer drinks with surprising smoothness and lightness, finishing dry with lingering depth.
