De Molen Barrel Aged Whiskey Wine Edition 2022 is an ambitious Imperial Stout from Dutch craft pioneer Brouwerij de Molen in Bodegraven. This beer matured in French whiskey casks and red wine barrels, creating a layered drinking experience.

Vanilla, caramel and burnt sugar lead the palate, followed by dark chocolate, roasted malt and a hint of smoke. The wine-derived tannins create a drier, more structured finish than a typical Imperial Stout, adding complexity and grip.

Despite 10.8% ABV, the beer drinks smooth and warming. The interplay between barrel influence, roasted character and wine-driven dryness makes this a contemplative pour rather than an indulgent one.
