The tripel style itself emerged in the 1930s when Trappist and other Belgian breweries created strong, golden ales with complex flavour profiles. Tripels traditionally combine Pilsner malt with white sugar and attenuative yeast, resulting in a dry, fruity finish with hints of spice and citrus.
