La Trappe Tripel
La Trappe Tripel is an amber-coloured Trappist ale of 8% ABV, brewed since 1884 by the monks of Koningshoeven Abbey in Berkel-Enschot. This genuine ale is made with natural ingredients—hop, barley, yeast and water from the abbey's own spring. Fermentation uses a distinctive yeast strain, and the beer is bottle-conditioned with yeast and sugar, creating a unique aromatic character.
The flavour is harmonious and well-balanced: fruity at first, transitioning to malty caramel with a pleasant bitterness. Aromas reveal notes of banana, apricot, clove and subtle floral hints, supported by candied sweetness. This is the archetype of the Tripel style—more assertive and hoppy than the Dubbel, yet still shaped by monastic tradition and patient craftsmanship.
