Beann Gulban is a gruit ale from The White Hag Brewing Company in Ballymote, Sligo – a resurrection of an ancient Irish beer style brewed over 2000 years ago. Instead of hops, this beer uses Irish heather tops to balance the sweet, rich malt. Natural fermentation with locally harvested wild yeast and souring bacteria gives the beer a strong sense of place and terroir.

The 2017 barrel-aged release was matured for two years in wood. The beer presents a burnt reddish-brown hue with light haze and develops distinctly fruity notes of blackberry and boysenberry. Peated barley contributes hints of smoke, while the alcohol brings gentle warming.
