Winter Welcome Ale
Samuel Smith's Winter Welcome Ale is an English winter ale at 6% ABV, brewed at the historic Tadcaster brewery in Yorkshire. Released annually with a vintage-dated label, it was the first imported winter seasonal beer shipped to the US in 1990.
The beer pours a beautiful copper-red with an off-white fluffy head. The nose carries malt, spice, hop character and a hint of citrus. The palate shows a balanced interplay of Fuggles and Goldings hops with subtle caramel malt, finishing clean and dry with minimal bitterness.
Traditionally fermented in stone Yorkshire Squares, Winter Welcome displays a moderately full body and soft carbonation. At 6% ABV there is virtually no alcohol burn, making it a solid, approachable winter warmer that rewards a slow pour and a warming glass.
