Alvinne Khazad-Dum
Khazad-Dum is a wheat beer from Brouwerij Alvinne, the Flemish pioneer of barrel-aged and fermented beers. This strong, cask-aged beer emerged from a single batch of 2000 litres of base wort, yielding five distinct fruity variants. It matures in a remarkable collection of wine barrels—including Sauternes, Banyuls, Sherry and Calvados—which impart its complex character.
In the glass, Khazad-Dum reveals a full, weighty structure with deep fruit notes. Grape, plum and blackberry dominate, supported by vanilla, honey and subtle wood influence. Fermentation with Morpheus yeast adds wild yeast characteristics that refine the whole.
The finish is dry and lingering, balancing natural acidity with the warming alcohol of 10.5%. This is a beer for contemplation, not haste.
