Oesterstout
Oesterstout from Scheldebrouwerij is a full-bodied stout at 8.5% ABV with a distinctive twist: fresh sea vegetables added during the boil introduce a subtle briny character to the finish that sets it apart from conventional stouts.
The beer pours dark and oily beneath a cappuccino-like head. Roasted malt and smoke dominate the aroma. On the palate, dark fruit and roasted grain notes unfold, balanced by refined malty bitterness. The finish is dry and bitter, with those characteristic salty undertones from the sea vegetables returning in the aftertaste.
Scheldebrouwerij, founded in the early 1990s in Meer near the Dutch border, crafts this beer with restraint: full in body yet never heavy, flavourful without excess.
